What do you supply?

We supply:

  • bath towels (you bring beach / dog towels!)
  • loo roll, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, foil, cling film, tea towels, it's pretty much fully equipped as a home would be
  • I leave teas, coffee, oils, vinegars, spices, herbs

We have an honesty box system for logs in the winter.

There's an array of saucepans (big enough for lobster cooking) a hand blender, cafetieres (bring your own ground coffee), a microwave, a dishwasher, dining for 8. There is a nespresso machine, I leave a few pods but please bring your own if you are likely to drink lots of coffee.

For babies, 2 high chairs, bath toys, loads of books and toys, baby bibs, cutlery, plates, sippy cups, plastic cups, drawing, pens etc...

Can I have a late check out, my ferry's not till 6pm?

If no-one is booked to come in that day at 4pm, then yes that's fine.

However if someone is booked to come in at 4pm that day then there are ways around it also!!

For example it's a popular compromise, in exchange for putting on the

first few washes of sheets you can have a much later check out - just let me know when booking! (just putting sheets in washing machine and turning on is all!)

What's good to do right on the doorstep?

  • Portbahn beach = 5 min walk
  • Bruichladdich Distillery = 10 min walk
  • Aileen's Mini Market = 10 min walk (local shop, post office, great coffee, toasties and chat)
  • Craft Fair = once a week Bruichladdich Village Hall
  • Bruichladdich Pier = 10 min walk (crabbing)
  • Play Park (swings, slides, roundabout, cafe) = 8 min drive through Port Charlotte at campsite at Port Mor
  • Port Charlotte beach = 5 min drive - safe, sandy, harbour with sweet little beach, jumping off pier at high tide, crabbing
  • Islay Museum = Port Charlotte
  • Petrol Station = Port Charlotte

Can you walk to the pub/restaurants?

Port Charlotte is a 40 min walk away (5 min drive). THere is a new cycle / walk way from Bruichladdich to Port Charlotte.

Port Charlotte Hotel, The Lochindal and The Lochindal Seafood Restaurant are all located in Port Charlotte. Taxis can be arranged if the walk back is too much! The local shop in Bruichladdich (The Mini Market) is a 5 min walk with a coffee shop / cafe in it next to the distillery.

Is there a beach nearby? Where can I swim?

Walk up the road to the war memorial (5 mins) and take the path down to one of Islay's hidden treasures ... named Portbahn Beach ... just like our house! There are 3 bays to choose from and you'll more than likely have them all to yourselves (apart from the coos)!

You can swim opposite the house but it's a bit boggy to get down to the shoreline there.
